The Swedish, sixteen year old environmental activist Greta Thunberg has addressed climate change protesters in London. On Sunday (April 21), at the end of a week of demonstrations led by Extinction Rebellion, she told them: “Keep going. You are making a difference,” the BBC report.
“For way too long the politicians and people in power have got away with not doing anything at all to fight the climate crisis and ecological crisis. But we will make sure they will not get away with it any longer.”
Thunberg – who has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize after leading international youth strikes for environmental action – travelled to London from Rome, where she staged a school strike. Disagreeing with plane travel (obviously) she took the journey by train.
Yesterday (April 21) Extinction Rebellion announced their intention to “pause” the current demonstrations, which have blocked off large areas of central London, to focus on political negotiation and prove that they can be a “long-term political force”.
