The latter forms a nice companion to the release of Dazed cover star YT’s latest album OI! today, which combines rage’s distorted digital melodies with upbeat jerk rap drum patterns and a sprinkling of UK slang. Elsewhere, you could be forgiven for thinking it was 2014 again because both of cloud rap’s founding fathers are gearing up to release landmark projects. This past month has seen Maryland’s Corbin release the post-punk influenced “Come Down” and Stockhom’s Yung Lean release expansive single “Babyface Maniacs”. Both artists helped usher in a turn towards raw, unfiltered emotion in popular music over ten years ago, and can you believe that neither has turned 30 yet? Rounding this month off, rap renegade Cortisa Star has dropped a braggadocious ode to her Paris Fashion Week debut, producer’s producer DJ Python links up with cult favourites Jawnino and Organ Tapes for the deep and transient “Dai Buki”, and Eastern Margins producer Jax Jones drops pumping club banger “Bad Boys”, in collaboration with sooyeon (FKA Oh Annie Oh) and Rebecca Black. Enjoy! Although we post these round-ups at the end of every month, we update the playlist regularly for our subscribers – so be sure to follow us on Spotify to keep up to date. Escape the algorithm!
