After an explosive 2024 in which Doechii’s stardom reached stratospheric heights, we were all rooting for the Florida rapper to win Best Rap Album at last night’s 67th Grammy Awards. Dressed head-to-toe in Thom Browne, she beat all the men in her category – Eminem, Future & Metro Boomin, Common & Pete Rock and J Cole – becoming the third female artist in history to pick up the award, following Lauryn Hill and Cardi BWhat’s more, her project Alligator Bites Never Heal isn’t technically an album but a mixtape, with her debut full-length album expected later this year.

We may have been betting on Doechii, but so was she. As the awards ceremony was coming to a close, the rapper dropped a surprise track “Nosebleeds”, all about her historic win. ‘“Will she ever lose?" Man, I guess we'll never know“ she raps in the chorus.

She also takes a moment in the bridge to extend her acceptance speech. “Right now is my time and my moment / Thank you to my swamp and thank you, God, I was broke / I thanks you, God, I thank you to Top God Entertainment”. For context, Doechii became the first female rapper to sign to Top Dawg in 2022. She also thanks SZA, “Mommy, Blake High School, and all the bitches I surpassed.”

“Obsessed with the concept of Doechii having a folder for ‘Songs if I win the Grammys’ and ‘Songs if I don’t’,” wrote one user in the YouTube comments.

In her actual, tearful, acceptance speech, standing alongside her mother, the 26-year-old confessed that she “went through so much” making this mixtape. “I dedicated myself to sobriety. I have to thank my beautiful mother, my label, my engineer, my fans, to the swamp. I call myself the swamp princess because I’m from Tampa, Florida!”

Doechii also performed two of her songs “Catfish” and “Denial is a River” earlier in the evening, receiving a standing ovation from the room and excited applause from Billie Eilish, Jay Z and SZA, whose reactions quickly went viral.

With “Nosebleeds”, the rapper returns to the confident, no-bullshit, thumping bars present throughout Alligator Bites. And who can blame her? It is Grammy-winning, after all.
