MusicNewsCould this conspiracy-laced charity single make it to Christmas number one?God Colony’s new collab with Liverpool-based writer Roy, ‘Loss Is Not Infinite’, combines Mr Blobby, 5G conspiracy theories, absurdity, and hope – all for a great causeShareLink copied ✔️December 3, 2024MusicNewsTextThom Waite“Loss Is Not Infinite”, God Colony and Roy25 Imagesview more + “Some skinhead lectures your nan about 15-minute cities” is a standout lyric from a new Christmas charity track by God Colony and the Liverpool writer Roy, but it’s a close competition. Between the titular refrains of “Loss is not infinite”, the Scouse storyteller calls out all the cranks and confusion of life in the mid-2020s, from 5G conspiracy theorists, to true crime Facebook mums, to enlightened taxi drivers who take it upon themselves to spread the message that the world’s actually square. “Loss Is Not Infinite” takes words from a short story of the same name – part of Roy’s debut collection Algorithm Party, recently adapted as a feature film – and puts them to music by the Liverpool-born duo, plus members of Fat White Family, Stealing Sheep, and The 2 Bears. Today (December 3), God Colony and Roy also share a music video for the track, directed by photographer Sam Batley. Watch above. The visual illustrates Roy’s deadpan vocals with chaotic scenes of Mr Blobby on the loose in Liverpool. Over the years, it seems the childhood icon has fallen on hard times, looking pretty ragged as he crashes a local football match, gets embroiled in a drunken hen party, and contemplates life against a dusky skyline. All digital sales from “Loss Is Not Infinite” will go to Damien John Kelly House, a Liverpool-based live-in centre for men recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, which is run by Roy and his mum. The centre has already helped turn many lives around (including Batley’s) via culture, art, and sport, regularly sharing residents’ artworks via Instagram. The end goal? Taking the charity single all the way to Christmas number one. God Colony themselves admit it’s an ambitious (and not entirely serious) ask, but in a perfect world, it would be Roy’s voice blaring out as we all tuck into our vegan turkey.
