slowthai has appeared in court on two charges of rape.

The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, appeared before Oxford magistrates court today (May 16), charged with raping a woman in Oxford in September 2021. Both counts relate to the same woman.

He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, and address.

The prosecution lawyer, Adam Yar Khan, told the magistrates that the charge of rape was an indictable-only offence, and the case must be heard at crown court.

He was bailed and will appear before Oxford crown court on June 15.

slowthai’s latest album UGLY – an acronym for U Gotta Love Yourself – reached the top 5 in the UK album charts after being released earlier this year.

His debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, received both a Mercury and Grammy nomination in 2021.
