Celebrating their first UK tour (alongside EU dates with Bat For Lashes), the theatric LA duo of Jon Beasley and Isabelle Albuqueruque premiere the gloriously dark short film for new single The Magic. Philip Glass comparisons have been thrown around, but it really is a sultry, tragic, Kubrickian love song, and Hecuba match this with an amazing couture-esque video directed by Beasley and Isaiah Seret. “We didn't have a big budget, but we wanted it to be as rich and beautiful and kind of over the top like The Wizard of Oz,” says Isabelle. “Jon taught himself how to make hats and made the pink cupcake hat that i wear in the cocktail scene. He also made the Yayoi Kusama inspired skirt, my mouse ear costume, the button bathing suit, and the tall shoulders cocktail dress.” Hecuba’s involvement within LA’s film and art scene runs deep. From curating film screenings, acting and directing, to performing with legendary folk artist, Linda Perhacs - an epic Los Angeles multimedia performance that also featured films from Daft Punk.

“The way we write is a really visual process and we were already really interested in telling stories and creating characters with our music, so making these narrative videos was a really natural step. We laid out ideas for short films around every song,” Jon explains of their debut album, Paradise. Hecuba are part of the ever growing Manimal Vinyl family, the brilliant weirdo art community buzzing around the label formed by Paul Beahan, responsible for first releasing Bat For Lashes in America, and home to We Are The World, VoicesVoices and Warpaint.

Hecuba’s UK tour kicks off on 17th October, playing London’s Proud Gallery.
