Arriving just days ahead of the film’s release, the track is accompanied by theatrical visuals that see Clark chasing after (and eventually catching) an unnerving alter ego, in scenes that seem to take ample inspiration from David Lynch. Written by Clark and Brownstein, and directed by Bill Benz (the filmmaker behind the “Daddy’s Home” music video), the mockumentary The Nowhere Inn is described as a “metafictional account of two creative forces banding together to make a documentary about St. Vincent’s music, touring life, and public persona”. “They quickly discover unpredictable forces lurking within subject and filmmaker that threaten to derail the friendship, the project, and the duo’s creative lives.” The film follows St. Vincent’s most recent album, Daddy’s Home, which arrived on May 14 this year. Carrie Brownstein’s latest record with Sleater-Kinney, Path of Wellness, followed on June 11. Watch the music video for “The Nowhere Inn” below. The full film will be released in cinemas and on Apple TV+ on September 17.
