Lil Nas X thanks the ‘gay agenda’ for VMAs win

‘Let’s go, gay agenda!’

Lil Nas X took home the coveted video of the year award for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” at last night’s VMAs at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.

The rapper beat off competition from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP”, Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits”, Doja Cat ft SZA’s “Kiss Me More”, and The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” to take the top prize of the evening for his video, in which Nas gives the devil a lap dance and pole dances into hell.

“First I want to say thank you to the gay agenda!” the “Old Town Road” singer said on accepting the gong. “Let’s go, gay agenda!” He then thanked his team before adding: “I love you guys so much, I do not take this for granted.”

“Montero” also picked up awards for best direction and best visual effects, with Lil Nas performing the song on the night before being joined onstage by Jack Harlow to sing their latest single “INDUSTRY BABY”.

The track appears on the rapper’s upcoming debut album Montero, the tracklist for which was released earlier this month boasting an allstar lineup of features from the likes of Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat, and Elton John. It’s due to drop on September 17.
