With the release of her single “Good Days”, SZA dropped the 888-808-0CRY hotline – a space for fans to call and ‘cry n laugh n talk’ to. Now, the R&B singer has revealed that she texts fans daily from her personal phone number.
In an interview with Complex, SZA explained that she is in multiple group chats with dozens of fans where they talk each day ‘on a personal level’.
Otherwise, the fans provide advice and feedback on her upcoming music. “My fans facilitate so much of (my work),” said the singer. “They make emails with me, they go through tons of footage with me, they hear all my stuff first, and give me honest opinions.”
According to SZA – who is scheduled to perform a 50-minute virtual set at Amex Unstaged four years after the release of her debut album CTRL – these fan interactions stand out to her most on the album’s anniversary. “I can’t say it’s a gift of the album, it’s just the gift of being able to interact with people, period,” said the singer. “Those moments are magical. I’m grateful to see it at a high volume all the time with my particular support group.”
Besides her fan messaging, SZA teased a long-awaited performance of her 2017 song “Love Galore” with Travis Scott and shared news that she may have a track with Tyler, the Creator in the works, who slid into SZA’s emails hours after she manifested a collab. “He hit me with a whole bunch of new stuff, and it was really inspiring and cool,” she said.
