The Long Beach rapper revealed the upcoming projects in a recent interview for GQ, adding that a Netflix show “bearing his name” is also in the works. The news comes three years after the surprise release of the rapper’s last studio album, FM!, in 2018. At a brief 22 minutes, the record featured collaborations with Earl Sweatshirt, Kamaiyah, Kehlani, Tyga, Ty Dolla $ign, and more, with production from Kenny Beats. In 2019, he followed FM! with a series of singles, released to accompany episodes of his YouTube series titled The Vince Staples Show. According to the GQ interview, Staples’ self-titled album is set to arrive this summer. Details are more scarce regarding Ramona Park Broke My Heart, with the release date yet to be announced. Giving some insight into what we can expect from the new projects, though, he does recall an interaction with SAINt JHN, who told him: “‘Everyone’s busy... They don’t have time to try to figure out what you’re trying to tell them. You’re just supposed to make them feel better and make them feel good. Put them in a specific space.’” “And that’s just something that I’ve been thinking about a lot,” says Staples. “Something that I learned from him. I’m just learning how to have a balance of everything within the same space and just not necessarily put a lot of pressure on what we create.” Revisit Dazed’s 2017 profile with Vince Staples, conducted ahead of his second studio album, Big Fish Theory, here.
