St. Vincent (AKA Annie Clark) has unveiled the video for her recently-released single, “The Melting Of The Sun”. The retro-inspired visuals — directed by the singer and Bill Benz — pay “animated tribute to the song’s lyrical icons”, following a live performance of the track on SNL last week.
The song itself is produced by Clark and former MASSEDUCTION collaborator Jack Antonoff, and comes ahead of her forthcoming sixth studio album, Daddy’s Home, which is set to be released on May 14 via Loma Vista.
“The Melting Of The Sun” is Clark’s second single ahead of the new record. It follows the release of the lead single “Pay Your Way In Pain” early last month, which came alongside more 70s-inspired visuals from Benz.
Clark reportedly began writing the songs on Daddy’s Home in 2019, following the release of her father after a nine year stint in prison. She also took inspiration from his record collection: “music made in sepia-toned downtown New York from 1971-1975.”
“Daddy’s Home collects stories of being down and out in downtown NYC,” she adds. “Last night’s heels on the morning train. Glamour that’s been up for three days straight.”
