Grimes’ child, X AE A-XII, is already making ‘super fire’ music apparently

The musician’s 10-month-old has officially made his first loop — how long until he releases it as an NFT?

Grimes and Elon Musk’s child, X AE A-XII (formerly X Æ A-12) hasn’t yet turned one year old, but evidently the musician’s influence is already rubbing off. Earlier this week, Grimes suggested that he’s already on the way to becoming a producer in his own right, tweeting: “My ten month old baby just turned on my teenage engineering keyboard, built a unique patch and made a loop and then smiled at me!”

In a subsequent video shared to Instagram, Grimes shows X AE A-XII playing around on the £1,200 OP-1 synth (I had Lego, but ok), confirming that he did, in fact, create his own loop. Admittedly, it doesn’t look entirely intentional, and it’s no Miss Anthropocene, but it’s a loop all the same.

“Did you make a loop? You’re so smart!” Grimes says in the background. In the caption, she adds: “Prob an accident but tbh he played a super fire set just now.”

X’s budding interest in music production isn’t completely surprising, given that naptimes are soundtracked by a Grimes-produced AI lullaby, and even his name is apparently a reference to Burial’s “Archangel”.

It’s not the first time that Grimes has inspired a family member to branch out into music, either. For better or worse, Elon Musk dropped his own EDM banger, “Don’t Doubt ur Vibe”, last year, followed by a track about NFTs earlier this month.

Grimes has also recently dipped a toe in the world of NFTs, selling several pieces of original crypto art for almost $6 million (if you’re still struggling to work out what an NFT even is, take a look at Dazed’s explainer here). The only question that remains now is when Grimes and X AE A-XII’s collaborative NFT is going to drop.
