Sky Ferreira has blessed us with a previously-unreleased version of “All the Madmen”, a track from David Bowie’s 1970 album The Man Who Sold the World. Released on January 8, the cover marks what would have been the late icon’s 74th birthday.
“HBD David Bowie,” writes Ferreira in the IGTV post. “I love you. (I just found this btw.)” The singer also confirms that the track is a “lost tape recording/demo” in the post, rather than a long-awaited new release.
Sky Ferreira’s much-delayed follow-up to her 2013 debut album, Night Time, My Time, has long been in the works. Titled Masochism, the record was said to be “finally happening” back in 2018, though only one single – “Downhill Lullaby” – has since been released.
In 2019, she also gave a live performance of the new song “Descending”, and debuted a song in collaboration with Charli XCX, on the latter’s self-titled album from the same year, Charli.
Bowie’s birthday has previously been celebrated through long lost demos and an EP of his final recordings, but this year it was also commemorated via TikTok. Earlier this week, his music made an official debut on the social media app, meaning users will now be able to soundtrack their videos with some of his most iconic songs.
