Megan Thee Stallion talks body positivity and getting advice from Beyoncé

Apparently Jay-Z ‘gives the fun advice’, while Beyoncé is like ‘look queen, just rise above’

In a new interview with Stephen Colbert for The Late Show, Megan Thee Stallion discusses the meteoric arc of her career during 2020, looking back on “WAP” and linking up with Beyoncé for a wildly popular remix of her (already wildly popular) track “Savage”.

“Just being from Houston, you have to know what Beyoncé just means to us,” she says, when asked what it’s like to have the singer on speed dial. “She’s like the standard, so being able to just speak to Beyoncé now… I’m like, girl, pat on the back.”

Megan also reflects on exactly what she and Beyoncé have spoken about, comparing the advice she’s received from the Black Is King singer to that of her husband, Jay-Z. “Jay-Z gives the fun advice,” the rapper says. “Say if I’m having a bad day, he’ll be like, ‘Girl you need to be somewhere driving a boat. Turn up. Have a good time.’ He gives me the more hot girl advice.”

On the other hand, Beyoncé is more about sage words of wisdom. “She’s like, ‘look queen, just rise above’,“ Megan adds. “She says it the nicer way.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Megan also discusses the inspiration for the track “Body” from her debut album, Good News, which was released just last month. “The hook literally came from me dancing in the mirror admiring my fluff,” she explains. “That’s how we wrote the song. It’s definitely about people just celebrating their bodies.”
