Under lockdown, James Blake has been making a number of Instagram Live performances, playing both his own compositions and cover versions of songs by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Billie Eilish. His performance of Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed” proved to be particularly popular on TikTok, inspiring some 500,000 videos that racked up a cumulative total of 5.2 million views on the platform, according to a press release. Presumably, this reception encouraged him to release a full studio version of the song. Of course, Blake is no stranger to “Godspeed”, having produced, arranged, and played on the original track when it appeared on Ocean’s 2016 album Blonde.
