The musician has taken to the BBC1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of pop peer Ariana Grande’s “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” and her own single “Doin Time”, a chilled-out version of Sublime’s original tune that appears on her album. The “resplendent” Grande cover is suitably Rey-ified and reworked into something akin to a modern Massive Attack or Portishead track, backed up with downtempo breakbeat drums and looping synths. Speaking to Clara Amfo in the studio, she said of the Ari pick: “I thought about sending her a screenshot of a list of preferred covers I was sent, which had about seven of her songs on it, so she wouldn’t just think I was a mega-fan.” A solid Grande fan and mutual mate, Del Rey previously covered “Pete Davidson” on her Instagram Stories.
