Bringing together a diverse array of women – also including model Casil McArthur, dancer Amazon Ashley, and Cyrus’ mum Tish – the video sends a pink-drenched message of body positivity and female power, and sees Cyrus gyrate in a red latex catsuit (nodding to Britney’s iconic “Oops!... I Did It Again” video). Flashing messages such as “Virginity is a social construct” and “My body my rules”, the visual spotlights the terrifying backwards steps when it comes to abortion law across America (not forgetting Northern Ireland), with director Alexandre Moors telling the Los Angeles Times: “We’re living in difficult times in America, and what I get from this video is that it injects a lot of energy and determination and the right fuel for the struggle.” Dressed in nude mesh and a silver crop, with her wheelchair draped in white fur, Aaron Philip serves serious looks at the camera (that smize!), and lip syncs the lyric “Don’t fuck with my freedom”. In a recent Model Moments video for Dazed, Philip – the first black, transgender, physically disabled model to be signed to a major agency – discussed her pride at being a force of representation, explaining that she’s “happy to be able to be myself in a space where there’s not much of me”. Cyrus’ video is an explicit celebration of female sexuality, and centres on the people and ‘taboo’ female products which don’t get the media representation they deserve – from images of breastfeeding and sanitary towels, to women of all shapes, sizes, and identities.
