FKA twigs is making her film debut at Sundance in Shia LaBeouf’s movie

The feature flick, written by LaBeouf, will chronicle a child TV star’s tumultuous childhood

While it looks like we won’t be receiving any new FKA twigs music any time soon, her first feature film has been announced for Sundance. The London artist is set to make her film debut alongside Shia LaBeouf in a loosely autobiographical film called Honey Boy.

Written and co-starring LaBeouf, the flick will premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in Utah. Directed by Alma Har’el and also starring Boy Erased’s Lucas Hedges and Noah Jupe, the plot of Honey Boy takes inspiration from his early life as a child star, following the tumultuous childhood and relationships of the protagonist and his ex-rodeo clown father. According to Sundance, the duo will “face their stormy past through time and cinema”. Photos from the set show artist and actor LaBeouf sporting a fake stomach paunch and a reciding hairline, playing the father. The title comes from LaBeouf’s childhood nickname. It’s not clear yet just who twigs is playing.

Honey Boy is one of 112 films just announced on the programme for the 2019 edition of Sundance Festival. Other notable highlights include The Last Black Man in San Francisco directed by Joe Talbot and starring Donald Glover (Childish Gambino), and Native Son directed by Rashid Johnson starring previous Dazed cover star Ashton Sanders from Moonlight.

FKA twigs has kept a pretty low profile this year, releasing a music feature with A$AP Rocky on “Fukk Sleep”, as well as the fourth release of her visual Instagram zine, AVANTgarden

Honey Boy will premiere at Sundance in January.
