Still, nothing’s excited us quite as much as the new ‘Tormenta Cage Headphone Head Piece’, a collaboration between Venezuelan producer Arca, fashion retailer SSENSE, and London leather company Fleet Ilya. Coming in a BDSM-style leather cage headpiece, the headphones feature “suede-covered cushioned ear pads, detachable post-stud cinch tab, remote, and 1.25 metre cable,” according to SSENSE’s website. There are also twin adjustable post-stud fastenings at the collar, and studded detailing throughout. SSENSE clarify that the headphones are intended as an art object only, so if they break, there’s no warranty. Which is probably worth bearing in mind, given they’ll set you back $6,450. “Hey I designed some headphones it’s casual they’re really cheap pick up a pair or don’t or whatever either way I’m locking you into the sound,” Arca wrote on Instagram. He has also partnered with Prada to design a number of items, including a $770 fanny pack. Arca recently launched SSENSE MONTRÉAL with a special live performance titled Tormenta. “When I saw the new SSENSE space, for me it was about collapsing the relationship between the audience and the artist,” he told us. “In a traditional concert venue there’s a safety that the audience has. They don’t feel like they can be fucked with, and they can just passively drink it all in. With Tormenta I was really interested in playing with the fourth wall breaking through the surveillance and surveilling those surveilling me.” Check out the headphones on SSENSE’s website.
