The minute-and-a-half long song, titled “November 9th”, was uploaded to the singer’s Soundcloud page yesterday (November 13). “I wrote this song on the day of the election,” she wrote in the caption. “Peace and revelations to all!” Described by the singer as a “transcendental lullaby”, the stripped-back track comprises of soft electric guitar, choral singing, and meditative lyrics. It seems to be aimed at people who have been left disappointed by the election result. “I know you're tired, don't let the world put out your fire,” Smith sings. “Take my hand and you will see, sadness and anger aren't everything.” The singer has become more assertive with her political beliefs over the last year; taking part in an anti-gun campaign, joining the Dakota Pipeline protests, and loudly challenging the gender binary.
