The singer’s legal situation is quite hard for fans to untangle, but currently she is facing claims from Dr. Luke that she breached her contract with his label, Kemosabe Records. Kesha has lost most of her counterclaims (although she is currently appealing them) and recently dropped her lawsuit against Dr. Luke in California. At the time, she wrote that she would be “continuing to fight for my rights in New York”, and on Friday (August 12) she confirmed to a New York judge that future legal battles will instead focus on what Digital Spy describes as “professional grievances” with her former producer. Though these accusations have been dropped, Kesha is still continuing to fight to get her music out. As Billboard write in an op-ed about Kesha’s career amidst her lawsuits, “she did not appear to be conceding so much as acknowledging, after a series of judgments in Luke and Sony’s favour, that she was unlikely to win her case. Her desire to work superseded her quest for justice.” Last month Kesha revealed that she’d delivered 28 songs to Sony, Kemosabe’s parent label, though it’s currently unclear whether they’ll actually see the light of day. Recently Kesha started a tour of North America with her “dirty rock’n’roll” band Kesha & the Creepies, footage of which can be watched below. Dr. Luke has denied all of Kesha’s accusations of abuse.
