Blige, RuPaul, Selena Gomez and more have joined forces for new single “Hands”, a tribute to the 49 people who were killed and 53 injured during the mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub last month. The track was co-produced by Mark Ronson, Bloodpop (formerly Blood Diamonds), and Justin Tranter, the latter two having previously joined forces on Justin Bieber’s “Sorry”. Tranter, a prolific pop songwriter, told Billboard that the idea for the song came about after hearing the news of the shooting while on tour with Selna Gomez. After immediately volunteering at Orlando’s local LGBT community centre, he wanted to create something with ongoing benefits to the community. According to the record label Interscope, all money raised from the sale will benefit Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, and GLAAD. The money will help families with medical care and counselling, as well as education. Other names featured on the star-studded track include Pink, Gwen Stefani, Halsey, MNEK, and Jason Derulo, as well as the Trans Chorus of LA. In total, 24 artists feature on the track.
