Last night, Anohni (formerly known as Antony Hegarty) appeared as a guest on French late-night talk show Le Grand Journal. Among the topics the singer-songwriter covered in the six-minute segment of the programme are her identity (“I've always been transgender”), the way that biology affects gender (“people are exploring the connections... in the way that their biology explores some of their expression”), her name (“it's like a spirit name”), how “the subjugation of women” is interconnected with “the subjugation of earth”, and her incredible new single “4 Degrees”. If you don’t speak French, you might have to rewind it a couple of times to get everything Anohni is saying – the dubbing does get in the way a little.

Anohni recently explained her decision to boycott the Oscars (she was nominated for the best original song award), discussing how trans people are treated in a wider social context. She’ll release her debut album Hopelessness later in 2016, featuring co-production from Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke.
