MusicNewsIs Frank Ocean’s album about to drop any minute now?The R&B star has been leaving clues around the internet – or is it just wishful thinking?ShareLink copied ✔️August 4, 2015MusicNewsTextDaisy Jones Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock somewhere, you’ll know that the whole world has got Frank Ocean fever. It all started with one promising photo published earlier this year alongside with the words: "I got two versions. I got twoooo versions" and the hashtags #ISSUE1 #ALBUM3 #JULY2015 #BOYSDONTCRY. And then, instead of going outside and enjoying the sunshine, people spent July tweeting things like, “Frank Ocean, Where that album at?!” and refusing to acknowledge August until the album drops. Hell, even we got caught up in an Ocean frenzy. Now July has been and gone and there’s still no album. We don’t think there is reason to wallow just yet though. Why? Because Frank Ocean has been dropping clues around the internet like pop culture’s answer to Hansel and Gretel. Let's look at the evidence, which we think points to an imminent release. HIS WEBSITE IS DOING MYSTERIOUS THINGS What is Frank Ocean trying to tell us?via Boysdontcry.co At some point this morning, Frank Ocean’s website stopped working and redirected visitors to a password-protected page for a “Spotify powered” store. The URL it led to was "boysdontcry.co/password", which could only mean one thing: Somewhere, out there, there is a Frank Ocean album. We were in the middle of trying to guess what the password could be when the website started up again with the URL: http://boysdontcry.co/. What is going on? Is he trying to tell us something or this is part of one big elaborate troll? PHOTOS OF NEW MERCHANDISE HAS SURFACED Would Yohji-designed Frank Ocean trainers really be sold for $50, though?via Boysdontcry.co According to some tech-savvy Frank Ocean fan at the Fader, there are clues hidden in the source code of his website, revealing a bunch of new merchandise. Their findings included a “Stripe Box Hoodie” for $60, a “Stripe Box Tee” for $30, a pair of "Yohji Yamamoto Y-3 Sneakers" (above) for $50 and a "Frank Ocean Summer Shirt" for $20 alongside a place-holding image of some penguins (?). Everything about these items seem totally legit, apart from the prices. Since when have you been able to get Yohji Yamamoto-designed trainers for $50 (£32)? Perhaps whoever designed the site forgot to add some extras 000’s. Also, can we just point out that the design on the Hoodie and Tee looks a lot like racing car-related graphics, and as we mentioned earlier this month, if you look really closely at one of the Boys Don’t Cry magazine covers, it shows what we assume to be Ocean head-to-toe in racing-driver gear. Do we detect a concept? HE IS STILL PROMISING US TWO VERSIONS via Boysdontcry.co This may be scraping the barrel a little, but if Frank Ocean’s album isn’t going to drop any minute now then why would he still have an image on his site promising it to us? Surely he would have deleted the post as the clock struck midnight on July 31, hiding all mention of it and essentially doing the internet equivalent of putting your hands over your ears and shouting “La, La, La I’m not listening”? We nearly died of excitement when Frank Ocean’s little brother Ryan Breaux spectacularly trolled everybody last week with a fake album release. If #BOYSDON’TCRY wasn’t hiding just around the corner, why would he be drawing so much attention to it? These are the questions that keep us awake at night. Anyway, Frank Ocean – no pressure! You could release a recording of yourself hitting a stick on a rock and we'd still be happy, we’re feeling that needy.
