We were lucky enough to have the Icelandic visionary take over our Facebook to talk to her fans – here are the best bits
We've had a pretty Björk-centric week on Dazed, premiering videos and exclusive remixes from her recent record Vulnicura. But while it is possible to have too much of a good thing, it's hard to have too much Björk. Today she took over our Facebook to speak directly to you, her fans, who were given free rein to ask whatever you wanted.
We've rounded up the best Björk bits from today's Q&A – here are some snippets from the queen of avant-pop.
WHEN SHE'S WORKING WITH ARCA SHE FEELS LIKE BOTH ARE "ATTENDING THIS SAME FUCKED UP GREEDY MUSICAL TREE BRANCH"
Arca, or Alejandro Ghersi, worked closely with Björk on Vulnicura and has been playing live with her too. Bjork described herself as a "purist" and that she had a great friendship with Arca, a person who knew her music before he knew her, something that she said had been tricky in the past. I don't know what a fucked up greedy musical tree branch is but I want to attend the shit out of one right now. Read our longread with Arca here.
SHE SAID THAT VIRTUAL REALITY IS MORE INTIMATE THAN REALITY
Pressed as to why she did the Stonemilker video the way she did, Björk said: "I guess it was a combination of things ... I felt it suited the song ... 'cause you're trying to reach out to someone ... also I love new toys and figuring out what their strengths are emotionally ... and it seems like VR is good at intimacy, even more intimate than "reality" ( no wonder porn got hooked ) so it was kinda an experiment in this".
BJÖRK SAYS SHE ADORES RIHANNA
Well, who doesn't? A fan saw her playing Rihanna and singing along at a show and asked her what she thought of the Barbados-born singer. Björk said: "I absolutely adore her". Collaboration coming up?
ARTISTS MUST FIND THEIR OWN VOICE
Björk has done a pretty good job of finding her own voice and then keeping it. Her advice to any illustrators of painters trying to forge their way in competitive creative industries was, "find your own voice".
BJÖRK ONLY USED ONE HETEROSEXUAL MALE DJ FOR VULNICURA REMIXES
But she says that this was accidental rather than conscious. "I noticed by accident that there was only one heterosexual male remixing, so it was kind of an in joke. I think this things like this it can't be intentional, it has to be about music. These people are simply the ones that are turning me most on at the moment." Listen to part 1 of the Vulnicura remixes below, featuring Lotic, Arca and Mica Levi.
THERE'S ONLY ONE THING SHE WANTS TO EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT HER LIFE
It's hope. That's all, "a tight tango with hope". Isn't that what we all want? I guess I'd settle for a tango with Björk. I so should have joined in the Q&A, I work here for Christ's sake. In all seriousness, hope is a humble thing to want to experience and something we all like feeling.
