Grace told TIME how much she valued the experience of shooting True Trans With Laura Jane Grace: "The opportunity I had while shooting this show was nothing short of tremendous. Getting the chance to listen to other people tell their stories of how life shaped their identities and views on gender couldn’t help but further inform my own understanding of just how complicated and also how simple all of it really is.” The punk singer came out in a Rolling Stone interview in 2012 which followed her journey from self-described shame at her gender dysphoria to acceptance. Against Me! went on to release a coming-out concept album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues, in 2014. Aptly, the record's lead single "True Trans Soul Rebel" is soundtracking Grace's forthcoming webseries. Watch the trailer for True Trans With Laura Jane Grace below: Grace is an outspoken supporter of trans rights and recently criticised Arcade Fire for "inaccurately playing on and perpetuating" trans stereotypes in the band's video for "We Exist". Grace was furious that the band and directors chose cis actor Andrew Garfield (of Spider-Man fame) to play a trans role instead of casting a transgender actor. The 10-part documentary series will first air on 10 October to coincide with National Coming Out Day. Escape the algorithm!
