Music / First LookClancy – What You Do EPExclusive: A straight-up dancefloor weapon from the Little Dragon remixerShareLink copied ✔️September 26, 2013MusicFirst LookTextHenry Morris When Dirt Crew Recordings launched in 2004, its focus was to bring the deep sounds of the Berlin underground to the masses. Recent standouts on the imprint have included Urulu, Purple Velvet and Detroit Swindle, and now they launch a sub-label SPIEL, which they promise will offer “genre crossing styles of music in the indie dance and nu-disco field." Its first release from newcomer Clancy faithfully delivers. Manchester-based Clancy's What You Do EP draws the broad influence that you might expect from the artist whose "Deep Haze" remix of Little Dragon's "Little Man" has nearly hit 100 thousand plays. Here, the smooth pads of "Nobody Else" give a hint of Balearic sunshine, while the vocal hooks keep Clancy firmly rooted in the future of house. Title track "What You Do", meanwhile, is a straight-up dance floor weapon. As well as being remixed by Nordic disco royalty Prins Thomas, Clancy has found the support of some powerful peers. If you aren’t a fan; stay at home; lock your windows and avoid that basement dance party at all costs: it’s going to be difficult to avoid. What You Do EP will be released on vinyl and digital on September 30. Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday.
