Music / MixJamie Grind mixThe garage-inflected ex-MC DJ makes us an addictive new mix, from Disclosure to Ruff SqwadShareLink copied ✔️May 24, 2013MusicMixTextDazed Digital Leeds producer Jamie Grind has made us a vibes-y summer mix of garage and house heavy forward-thinking bassiness via the likes of George Fitzgerald, Dauwd, to Disclosure and Ruff Sqwad. After making his debut on label Infrasonics where his returned for a split EP with Irish producer Gon, the Fortified Audio producer and Misha B remixer's latest track, 'The Decision' arrives an infectious R'n'B vocal-focused garage jam - don't sleep on this. Dazed Digital: You once were a hip hop MC? What progressed you towards producing your more garage/house-influenced current sounds today?Jamie Grind: Initially I just wanted to make my own beats so I could vocal my own tracks, but at the time I was also experimenting with the darker garage-esque sounds of dubstep, and eventually just got more into producing. I've been involved with various music projects; this is the one that felt the most natural and had full creative control over.DD: What are you listening to at the moment and how would you describe your mix as a reflection of that?Jamie Grind: I listen to a mixed bag really, its getting harder to find good new music to listen to these days, so apologies if the mix isn't full of exclusives - its just a bunch of music I like, some old and some new. Its quite a bright mix and would make a good accompaniment to a sunny day, theres a lot of catchy vocal tracks.DD: For a while you put on a club night in Leeds and you DJ. How much do you enjoy clubbing yourself to this day or do you feel it's changed over the last year or so with the popularisation of house music?Jamie Grind: I still love DJing out, but other than that I wouldn't really go to a club, just out of fun. I have no problem with the popularisation of house music, but for me the atmosphere isn't the same anymore - I like dark, dingy rooms with people stood around smoking zoots and drinking Red Stripe.
