We caught up with Charlie Casely-Hayford, one half of menswear favourites Casely-Hayford, for his thoughts. He has been styling the band since their eponymous debut... Romy has this knack to transport the listener somewhere else, no matter what they're doing. I find it quite unnerving, but reassuring at the same time – a feeling of security and vulnerability is pretty hard to capture in one track but somehow they do it Dazed Digital: What do you think of the new single and video?Charlie Casely-Hayford: Its tempo is as audacious as the video. Romy has this knack to transport the listener somewhere else, no matter what they're doing. I find it quite unnerving, but reassuring at the same time – a feeling of security and vulnerability is pretty hard to capture in one track but somehow they do it. I first went to see them perform at a little intimate gig in London before they started touring.DD: Was that how you started working with The xx on styling?Charlie Casely-Hayford: I actually approached them around 2/3 years ago and said how much I respected what they were doing and explained what I was doing myself, and we've been working on and off ever since. They have such a great sense of personal style and are really forward-thinking in their approach to clothes, it makes my job a lot more interesting. We've been working with brands such as Yang Li, Hannah Marshall and Lee Roach on the new album.DD: Did you go on tour?Charlie Casely-Hayford: Yeah, I took a little time off and went touring with them across America. Easily one of the best experiences I've had.DD: What's your favourite thing about the band?Charlie Casely-Hayford: Their integrity. They are so focused for three people who are so young. My favourite thing about their music is how it can make someone strong feel completely vulnerable, an amazing quality to capture in music. Escape the algorithm!
