‘Brutalist architecture’, ‘concrete playground’ or not, matter is a bloody slog to get to, no two ways about it. It’s also housed in the bewildering edifice that is the O2 centre in Greenwich. We get there and are confronted with a bunfight for drinks. At least am cheered up when I see Roisin Murphy in a crazy Turkish hat and YSL-goes-to-the-desert outfit. She reminds me of the genie from the Disney cartoon.

Unfortunately miss Teenagers/New Young Pony Club soundclash. Backstage though, Lou from NYPC is worrying what her mom will think for her singing the words ‘c**t’ on Teenagers’ ‘Homecoming’.

Fortunate to catch the last part of Patrick Wolf soundchecking by playing his entire second album, the other bands listening with rapt attention. Very inspiring to see different bands jamming together, sharing ideas – a creative hotpot!

Florence and the Machine are a terrifying force of nature live who blows much touted Big Pink offstage. Backstage, she’s as sweet as can be. It’s always the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
