Fort Romeau Exclusive Mix

The electronic producer, La Roux band member, and latest 100% Silk signing crafts a new mix for us featuring the likes of Hype Williams, Joy O and Kassem Mosse

Perhaps introducing South London's Fort Romeau, aka Mike Norris, as 'La Roux's keyboardist / programmer' invokes the wrong ideas of poppy electro and angular hair, but his solo productions couldn't be further from all that. Inspired by the likes of Air and Autechre, Norris fuses warm analogue sounds and haunting vocal samples for his debut release, 'Kingdoms', on the seductively offbeat 100% Silk label.

I've got a shiny beige shirt that makes me look like Tony Soprano. I have no idea what I was thinking on that one

Honing some housier vibes, his Mariah Carey-sampling 'Say Something' and 'I Need U' are highlights of the LP, made from his one synthesizer - a Yamaha DX7 and a seven year old laptop. Alongside a quickfire Q&A Norris makes Dazed Digital an amazing new mix featuring the likes of Joy OKyle Hall, Ramadanman, and Aphex Twin...

..your secret talent?

I'm exceptionally gifted in the ways of Mikado.

...your worst vice?
Good food and drink. Nice restaurants and champagne don't really mix with having no money though.

…the story behind your name?
My fiance came up with it, I think it's actually a subtle variation of a French town we went on holiday to a while ago.

... your favourite sound?
A popping cork / lapping waves. Ideally both at the same time.

... did you grow up listening to?
Mainly 70s rock, my dad has a pretty large vinyl collection and would constantly play Deep Purple, AC/DC etc, there were a few gems by Moroder and Jean Michel Jarre in there too.

...are you listening to now?
Right this second, "Masks" by Martyn.

...your favourite website?

...your favourite label?
There's loads of great labels, the Workshop 12"s have been pretty flawless for a while.

...your worst fashion secret?
I've got a shiny beige shirt that makes me look like Tony Soprano. I have no idea what I was thinking on that one. the top of your hit/shit list?
If by hit list you mean winners and not people I want to kill then I'm all for Anonymous and their recent DDoS attacks on corporate America. It's like living in a cyberpunk novel.

How would you describe your work?
Electronic body music.

What's next?
Working on more music, DJing, reading more.
