From a diabolical performance in the first presidential debate to calling Ukrainian President Zelenskyy President Putin, it’s been a rough few weeks for Joe Biden. The US President has been facing mounting pressure to stand aside from leading Democrats and donors, with concerns about his age growing more and more urgent as the battle for the White House has raged on.

On Sunday (July 21), Biden finally announced that he would stand down, after more than 30 Democratic members of Congress had called on him to do so. “While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in a letter posted on X announcing his decision. The President thanked Vice President Kamala Harris, and went on to endorse her as the Democratic nominee for president. “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he said. “Democrats – it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

All 50 state Democratic party chairs have now thrown their support behind Harris to be the party’s new presidential nominee while donations to the new Harris campaign have surged. A number of celebrities have also endorsed Harris, including Robert De Niro, John Legend and Katy Perry. Charli xcx also tweeted in support of Harris, posting “kamala IS brat” after Kamala HQ, the official X page of Harris’ campaign, changed its cover photo to a Brat-style graphic.

To celebrate the wonderful news that an 81-year-old zombie is likely to be replaced by a “xannied-up former cop”, here are the best memes about Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race.
