If you’re feeling downbeat about the UK election, take comfort in the fact that things could always be worse. For example, you could live in the US and have to choose between a right-wing populist convicted of falsifying business records to commit election fraud, or an 81-year-old man with all the verve and dynamism of someone who has just ingested half a gram of ketamine.

Last night Donald Trump and President Joe Biden squared off in the first presidential debate, and suffice to say, it was a car crash. Trump repeated lie and after lie while Biden froze and struggled to speak coherently on several occasions. One moment saw the current President call Trump a “sucker” and a “loser”, while later in the debate the two geriatrics began squabbling over who was better at golf.

Biden’s performance was so dire that some Democrats have called for him to be replaced with a more able candidate before the election takes place later this year.

It’s quite scary to think that these two pitiful men are supposed to be the best available candidates to lead the most powerful nation on earth – so scary that it doesn’t even bear thinking about.
