Titled Pretty Boys Are Poisonous, the book is set for publication on November 7 and has been described by the publisher as “a heartbreaking and dark collection of poetry”. Comprising over 80 poems, the collection sees the Jennifer’s Body star explore the many ways that people change themselves in order to fit in with the ones they live with, often at the expense of their own identities. “These poems were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence. I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins,” Fox said in a statement. “My freedom lives in these pages and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness.” The collection, which is being published by Gallery Books in the US and Headline in the UK, is not the first time that the Transformers star has shared her poetry. In 2021, Fox shared a poem she had written for for her on-again-off-again partner, pop punk rapper Machine Gun Kelly in a now-deleted Instagram post. She has also spoken in the past about the poetry of noted philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Pretty Boys Are Poisonous, however, marks the Think Like A Dog actor’s first foray into life as a published author. Who exactly the poems are about remains to be seen. “Pretty Boys Are Poisonous marks the powerful debut from one of the most well-known women of our time,” reads a description by the publisher. “Turn the page, bite the apple, and sink your teeth into the most deliciously compelling and addictive books you’ll read all year.” Pretty Boys Are Poisonous will be published on November 7.
