Jameela Jamil calls out Cardi B for promoting detox teas

‘I hope these celebrities all shit their pants in public’

Jameela Jamil – of The Good Place – has been pretty clear with her views on diet products in the past. She’s been justifiably vocal in the protest against appetite suppressant lollipops and their faux-feminist marketing and, in September, she called out Kim Kardashian (among others) for marketing such products, calling them “double agents for the patriarchy”.

Now, Jamil has spoken out again, criticising a post on Cardi B’s Instagram promoting a deal on detox teas by Florida-based diet brand Teami. “They got Cardi B on the laxative nonsense ‘detox’ tea,” writes Jamil on Twitter. “GOD I hope all these celebrities all shit their pants in public, the way the poor women who buy this nonsense upon their recommendation do.”

The actress and presenter also goes on, in the thread, to point put some healthier alternatives to dieting: try “some damn green vegetables” she suggests, or “some nutritious natural vegetable soup”.

But she is also careful to distance herself from the whole celebrities-giving-nutrition-advice thing altogether. “Generally just don’t ever take diet advice from women who know nothing about nutrition/basic advertising ethics,” she writes. “If you want to get healthier, talk to a trainer/doctor.”
