Film & TVNewsJacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan to star in promising young (gay?) filmWatch the trailer for the upcoming Emerald Fennell-directed thriller, Saltburn – an ‘explicit’ tale of ‘privilege and desire’ShareLink copied ✔️August 30, 2023Film & TVNewsTextAlim Kheraj Jacob Elordi is booked and busy. Along with tackling the role of Elvis this autumn in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, the Euphoria star is set to star in Saltburn, the second film from Promising Young Woman director Emerald Fennell, due for release late this year. Watch the recently released trailer above. While most details about the film are being kept under lock and key, what we do know sounds like it’ll scratch that autumnal dark academia itch. Also starring Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan, the thriller has been described as “a wicked tale of privilege and desire”. As reported by IndieWire, the film is set in the early 00s and takes place at Oxford University. We follow Keoghan’s character, Oliver Quick, a Liverpudlian student who becomes sucked into the orbit of the aristocratic Felix Catton, played by Elordi. As Quick’s obsession with Catton develops, he finds himself invited to Catton’s country estate “for a summer never to be forgotten”. Along with Keoghan and Elordi, the film boasts a coterie of big named stars, including Rosamund Pike, Richard E Grant, Carey Mulligan and Lolly Adefope. The film also stars Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, Sadie Soverall and Ewan Mitchell. Notably, Saltburn appears to be absent from the lineups for both the Toronto and Venice film festivals. However, World of Reel reports that test screenings have taken place, with those who have seen the film comparing it to The Talented Mr Ripley. It also sounds like there’s a bit of Brideshead Revisited thrown in there for good measure. While many films are being delayed due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, Saltburn is set for release on November 17.
