Set across a lavish weekend party in a mansion, the film sees its cast of zoomers play a murder mystery role-playing game called ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ – before long, people start being killed off for real and the hunt is on to find the killer. It’s Agatha Christie meets Euphoria; Gosford Park with vaping and glow stick necklaces, or, as director Halina Rejina described it, ‘Mean Girls meets Lord of the Flies’ The film stars Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha’la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott (of Shiva Baby fame), Lee Pace, and Pete Davidson. Adding to its Gen Z bonafides, the trailer also features a new and original song by Charli XCX, “Hot Girls”. The script is based on a New Yorker short story written by Cat Person author Kristen Roupenian, and the early critical reaction – after its premiere at SXSW – has been positive. Lighter in tone than A24’s earlier forays into horror, and boasting a starry cast, it looks set to be another big hit for the production company, following on the wild success of this year’s Everything Everywhere All At Once. It will be released in the UK on September 2, and you can check out the trailer above.
