First announced in November 2018 – following the success of 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 – the series centres on a female replicant, Elle, who finds herself on the run in the Los Angeles of 2032. Directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama (who collaborated on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045), and co-produced by Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, the series will run for 13 episodes starting this month. Cowboy Bebop director Shinichirō Watanabe will also return as a producer. A behind-the-scenes video accompanying the trailer features executive producer Joseph Chou and co-directors Kamiyama and Aramaki discussing the Blade Runner: Black Lotus world and the significance of the Blade Runner franchise. Black Lotus will take place in the wake of Blade Runner: Black Out, the Flying Lotus-scored animated short that premiered ahead of Blade Runner 2049. The show’s producers have also previously teased the return of “some familiar characters” from the franchise. Blade Runner: Black Lotus will debut its first two episodes on November 13 on Adult Swim and Crunchyroll. Take a behind-the-scenes look below.
