The upcoming season of The L Word: Generation Q picks up where season one left off in the aftermath of Sophie’s decision at the airport, where we finally find out whether she’s chosen Dani or Finley. “Meanwhile, Bette’s personal and professional pursuits force her to reexamine her roots – something Angie also questions and explores in her own way,” reads the official synopsis. Plus, “in the wake of her divorce, Shane throws herself into finding new ways to keep the bar thriving, while Alice is surprised when writing her first book steers her whole life in a new direction,” the description continues. “Micah is pushed to reckon with his identity as he navigates big changes in his career and love life, while Gigi’s journey to move on from Nat (guest star Stephanie Allynne) and Alice takes an unexpected turn.” The OG L Word ran between 2004 and 2009. While pioneering in its own right, the show has since been criticised for not being LGBTQ-inclusive – its instances of biphobia and transphobia, for instance, are particularly jarring. In contrast, the 2019 reboot offered a refreshed take on identities and relationship dynamics. It features a new generation of younger, more diverse crowd – Sophie (Rosanny Zayas), Dani (Erienne Mandi), Micah (Leo Sheng) – the first trans character on the show who is trans in real-life, after active casting searches by the network – and Finley (Jacqueline Toboni). It also brings back a few staple veteran cast members, namely heartbreaker Shane (Katherine Moennig), Alice (Leisha Hailey), and Bette (Jennifer Beals). The L Word: Generation Q season two will premiere August 8 with ten episodes running weekly until the October 11 season finale. Watch the trailer below. Escape the algorithm!
