Cast your mind back to last year when Keanu Reeves launched his own comic book, BRZRKR, about an immortal warrior, who’s half-man and half-god. Now, Netflix has announced that it’s adapting the series into a live-action film and an anime series.
The news was announced by Netflix via Twitter, which revealed that Reeves will both produce and star in the film. He’ll also be voicing his character in the anime adaptation.
While the plot has yet to be revealed, the comic book follows Berzerker, an immortal warrior who begins working for the US government to fight battles that are deemed too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. “In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence… and how to end it,” reads a description by comic book publishers Boom! Studios.
Reeves is obviously no stranger to action-packed roles, having starred in The Matrix and John Wick franchises. He also played the enigmatic terrorist-rockstar Johnny Silverhand in the video game Cyberpunk 2077 – a role that was so popular with fans that game developers CD Projekt RED had to issue a warning after an unofficial mod allowed players to have sex with him.
With the fourth installment of The Matrix just around the corner, fans are speculating about the title of the upcoming film. Some have suggested The Matrix Resurrections, after a make-up artist on set posted a now-deleted photograph addressing the movie by the title, but Warner Bros has denied these rumours.
There’s currently no official release date for either the live-action or anime adaptation of BRZRKR, but you can take a look at the comic book trailer – voiced by Keanu himself – below.
