Lady Gaga and Adam Driver’s House of Gucci look becomes a luxe meme

As well as being a musical icon and an Oreo merch queen, Lady Gaga has been building her joyous, successful acting career, with all the bops, emotional arcs, and looks – as the vampy Countess in Hotel, as Ally in A Star is Born. Now, she’s priming to make a return to film with another leading role in Ridley Scott’s upcoming House of Gucci.

Gaga stars alongside Marriage Story’s leading actor, Adam Driver, as Patrizia Reggiani, the wife of Maurizio Gucci (Driver), the Gucci heir and house founder Guccio Gucci’s grandson. House of Gucci follows the true story of Reggiani, a wealthy Italian socialite and high-fashion personality, and her marriage breakdown. In 1985, Gucci left her for a younger woman. Then, in 1995, Gucci was assassinated by a hired hitman on his office steps in Italy. The film picks up as Reggiani faces trial of murder, for which she served 18 years IRL. The story shocked the world at the time, and it’s likely the film will focus on Reggiani as the ‘Black Widow’, so dubbed by the press. With a screenplay by Roberto Bentivegna, it’s based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House Of Gucci: A Sensational Story Of Murder, Madness, Glamour, And Greed. Expect to see the lavish and opulent lifestyle in full cinematic glory, with one of the fashion industry’s most extravagant families, and a salacious storyline.

As production of the drama began last month, images of Lady Gaga and Adam Driver have since dominated Twitter, showcasing the stylish vintage lookson set in Italy, between the capital and the alps. Gaga shared an image behind-the scenes of the pair captioned “Signore e Signora Gucci #HouseOfGucci”. While Gaga is dressed in an applique turtleneck jumper, with an elaborate fur hat and throngs of chains, Driver sports a pair of seminal oversized glasses from the era that hungry Lexxola fans will be screaming over. 

Boasting alpine glamour, the snapshot sent social media sideways, with the same frenzy as that Bernie Sanders meme. Naturally, he makes a comeback to join the stars on the alps in subsequent memes. Lest we forget the sea shanty and the Duke’s spoon, this looks like one of 2021’s most iconic internet creations. 

Some liken Gaga’s furry pillbox hat to Schitt’s Creek’s infamous Moira Rose extravagant outfits, and Driver’s look to that of a bookish critical theorist.

House Of Gucci is set for release in November 2021, timed with the House’s 100th anniversary.
