Watch the first trailer for Silence of the Lambs TV series Clarice

The CBS series will see FBI agent Clarice Starling, played by Rebecca Breeds, return to pursuing serial killers after the events of the iconic film

In January this year it was announced that a new Silence of the Lambs spinoff TV series was in the works at CBS, and would focus on FBI agent Clarice Starling. Aptly titled Clarice, the series promised a deep dive into Starling’s career as she returns to pursuing serial murderers in 1993, a year after her encounter with Hannibal Lecter.

Now, CBS has released a first trailer for Clarice. The teaser shows rural crime scenes and a grisly flashback to human flesh being sewn together in the original film, with a voiceover asking: “What do you do with all your rage?”

Originally lifted from Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel, The Silence of the Lambs, Starling was played by Jodie Foster in the iconic 1991 film of the same name, a performance that won her an Oscar. In the 2001 film adaptation of Harris’ follow-up novel Hannibal, meanwhile, Starling was portrayed by Julianne Moore.

In Clarice, Rebecca Breeds of Pretty Little Liars will step into the FBI agent’s shoes. The series is created by producer Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) and writer Jenny Lumet (Rachel Getting Married).

“Hannibal is an incredible character,” Kurtzman said in an October interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “But Clarice Starling has a truly unique amazing psychology, and part of why Silence of the Lambs was so wonderful is the film put you so squarely in her shoes.”

Back in 2019, the pair also announced they were working on a follow-up to the David Bowie-starring film The Man Who Fell To Earth, with would revolve around an alien who lands on Earth at a turning point for human evolution.

Clarice is set to debut on CBS next year, on February 11. A UK release date is yet to be announced. Watch the new trailer below.
