The actor is set to star in the upcoming four-part psychological thriller, The Deceived – the trailer of which has just dropped. Written by Derry Girls’ creator Lisa McGee, the series tells the story of Ophelia (Emily Reid), a student who has an affair with her married professor, Dr Michael Callaghan (Emmett J. Scanlan). Mescal plays builder Sean McKeough, who acts as Ophelia’s confidante after she believes Callaghan’s wife Roisin (Catherine Walker) may actually be alive, despite supposedly dying in a house fire. The opening of the trailer sees McKeough driving Ophelia somewhere, seemingly against her will, as he tells her, “You’re not well”. As the clip continues, we see a pregnant Ophelia become more and more agitated as she tries to maintain her sanity, while searching for the truth about Roisin’s ‘death’. There’s currently no confirmed date for when The Deceived will air, but it’s set to arrive on Channel 5 later this year. In the meantime, look back at our interview with Mescal and his Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones as they discuss sex scenes, first loves, and Sally Rooney.
