The sketch in question initially features the hit sitcom’s leads – Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Nicola Coughlan, Dylan Llewellyn, and Louisa Harland – panicking about meeting Ronan (over Zoom, ofc) and presenting her with a “brilliant idea” to raise money for charity. Predictably, there actually is no “brilliant idea”, leaving the Derry Girls to brainstorm one before Ronan joins the call (a brainstorming session that includes a not-so-subtle dig at Gal Gadot’s “Imagine” video, and a fantasy involving Normal People’s Paul Mescal and Fleabag’s Andrew Scott, aka the Hot Priest). In a subsequent tweet, Coughlan refers to Ronan as a “four time Oscar nominee and now honorary Derry Girl”. Four time Oscar nominee and now honourary Derry Girl, thank you #RTEComicRelief for letting us act the eejit with Saoirse Ronan Please donate if you can and help so many brilliant Irish charites 💚https://t.co/UzZmoxHay2pic.twitter.com/nYzAwskmND— Nicola Coughlan (@nicolacoughlan) June 26, 2020 Coughlan also directs viewers to the Irish charities supported by the Irish Comic Relief, which aim to help those most in need during the coronavirus pandemic. As of early this morning (June 27), more than €5 million (or over £4.5 million) had been raised, as shared by RTÉ. Watch the “Saoirse Ronan becomes a Derry Girl” sketch below.
