It’s really no surprise that David Fincher has teamed up again with composer Trent Reznor, or his fellow songwriter Atticus Ross. The frontman of Nine Inch Nails and his band mate have previously hit all the right notes in their work with the director, scooping up awards along the way.

This time around, the film in question will be Mank, Fincher’s new biopic of the Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz (played by Gary Oldman).

Staying true to the 1940s setting, Reznor and Ross will be keeping it analog, Revolver reports. “We're not gonna be using the modular synthesizer on that one," says the former. "We think we're gonna be period authentic, so it just creates a new set of challenges.”

The pair began properly scoring films on Fincher’s 2010 Facebook drama The Social Network, which won an Oscar for its score (alongside two others for its editing and screenplay), as well as a Golden Globe.

Continuing their work with Fincher, the pair have also won a Best Score Grammy for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and have been nominated for a Grammy and Golden Globe for Gone Girl.

Needless to say, expectations are high.

In other recent collaborations (to use the term more loosely), Trent Reznor has also said he doesn’t mind being sampled on Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”.
