According to the official synopsis of Jesus Is King, the film “brings Kanye West’s famed Sunday Service to life in the Roden Crater, visionary artist James Turrell’s never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert”. It adds: “This one-of-a-kind experience features songs arranged by West in the gospel tradition along with new music from his forthcoming album Jesus Is King” The minute-long trailer for the film, directed by fashion photographer Nick Knight, slowly zooms in on the white space visible looking out from Rodens Crater – an artwork built into the cinder cone of a dormant volcano in Arizona – while haunting choric singing from his Sunday Service plays. The trailer ends with bible verse Mark 1:15: “The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the gospel”. Tickets are available for screenings beginning October 25.
