If the city’s residents weren’t up all night dancing with Madonna and Charli xcx at the Saint Laurent party, they were tossing and turning in the sweltering heat. Much of Europe was issued an extreme heat warning this week, with the French capital somehow facing the very worst of it. Of course, this would only occur during Paris Fashion Week men’s, meaning that several designers were forced to move their shows to a time that wouldn’t result in guests getting sunstroke. Jonathan Anderson’s SS27 Dior men’s show fell victim to the heatwave, changing its timings two days prior. It may have been a rude wake-up call for Paris’ sleepy streets, but at least no one passed out. Below, we take a closer look at the show by numbers. 3 SHOWS IN Anderson’s SS27 offering marked his third menswear show for Dior. The first was preppy, the second was Mk.gee-inspired, but today’s show promised to take us on a journey of “new perspective and reinvention,” according to the brand’s messaging. 40 DEGREES According to BBC Weather, the temperature in Paris is due to hit 40 degrees later today. Originally, the Dior show was due to take place at 14:30 this afternoon – when it would have been 38 degrees. As a result, Anderson and his team listened to the extreme heat danger warnings, moving the show to 9am this morning instead and greeting guests in a cool 29 degrees. 36 YEARS The age of Italian-born, New York-based painter Giangiacomo Rossetti, whose romantic miniature portraits decorated the space. Anderson teased Rossetti’s work on social media ahead of the show, giving us a glimpse of the runway looks through the paintings. 070 SHAKE 070 Shake sat front row alongside Yung Lean, Little Simz, Mike Faist, Drew Starkey, LaKeith Stanfield and K-pop band Cortis. While some guests were seated inside, others were seated in the garden area – but every single one of them was fanning themselves with chic, eggshell-toned handheld fans. (STUDIO) 54 Or Studio 54, to be more precise. This season’s invite came in the form of a black, glittering disco ball, reminding us of the legendary New York 70s club, and signalling that Anderson would be throwing some sort of party for SS27. LOOK 1 The opening look consisted of a loose white shirt with oversized cuffs, swathed by a super lightweight, sheer black smoking jacket and black trousers. The model entered the room in silence, before finding the aux cord and plugging in to the speakers. Immediately, the chateau vibrated with high-BPM electronic music. 9 SOUNDTRACK FEATURES Who better to get the party started than Fred Again..? The producer curated a custom mix for this season’s soundtrack, including features from the likes of Headie One, Jamie T, Jhené Aiko, KETTAMA, KTNA, Latin Mafia, Mabe Fratti, Young Thug, plus original vocals from Christine and the Queens. In fact, Fred Again..’s expert use of sampling inspired the entire collection, which saw Anderson sample, remix and reinterpret classic styles. 18 CENTURIES Anderson took us back to the 1700s and the golden era of masquerade balls. Venetian-style harlequin-print masks hung from the walls of the historic Musée Nissim de Camondo location (a museum dedicated to French decorative arts, currently closed for refurbishment until 2030). The space is home to several tapestries, collections of porcelain, and even items that once belonged to Marie Antoinette. Clearly, Anderson intended this to be a ball for the ages, spanning multiple centuries of party styles – from masquerades, to Studio 54, to kids taking over the aux at house parties. Anderson’s love of sparkle has become increasingly obvious with each of his Dior shows, and today’s was the glitziest of them all. And it wasn’t just the trousers that were shining bright, glitter was woven into jackets, knitwear, frayed edges, you name it. 66 MODELS The total number of looks in the collection. The smoking jacket was easily the standout silhouette of the show, reimagined in various ways, with the curved lapel appearing on cropped bombers and sweeping dust jackets. Elsewhere, Anderson turned to the shredder once again – tearing up knitwear and denim.
