For a house so entrenched in ideas of anonymity, this seems to be an interesting new direction for the brand – it’s no coincidence that two of the biggest stars in the world had their own Margiela moments within hours of each other. That’s obviously not to say that celebrity has been foreign to the Margiela brand until now – the Kardashians and Jenners were mainstays at John Galliano’s catwalk shows, Cardi B was at Martens’ Paris debut, and Galliano dressed practically everyone at the 2024 Met Gala, including Kardashian. However the new campaign and Kardashian’s Venice Film Festival moment has reinvigorated the online conversation about Margiela embracing celebrities even more. The new collaboration sees three classic Crocs styles reimagined by way of the Gaultier archive: a tattoo print clog inspired by Les Tatouages SS94, a lacey pink pair which riff on Madonna’s 90s cone bra corset, and a faux leather pair with Gaultier’s iconic safety pin affixed. JULIA DEBUTS NEW VERSACETalking of expecting the unexpected, we’ve just got our first glimpse of Dario Vitale’s new era at Versace, and it’s on Julia Roberts at Venice Film Festival. The actress is better known as an American sweetheart than a Versace muse, and the clothes seem to follow suit, with Vitale stripping back the excess for a much simpler rendering of what Versace could be. The Boston is arguably the brand’s most iconic silhouette, so it only made sense to apply our vision to it next.
