Not just any kind of hot, though: the hot that clings to your skin as soon as you step outside the door; the hot that has you flapping your hands, gasping for air and begging for mercy. It was quite lucky, then, that all the fashion shows took place in rooms blasting with cold air, but we did have to brave the heat in the ten seconds between climate-controlled cars and air-conditioned show spaces, and we should be praised for that. As temperatures eventually soared to 37 degrees, you might think that that would hamper the plans of Berlin’s street style pros, known to skulk outside shows in the hope of discovery – but boy, would you be wrong. Not only did the sunshine bring out even more of them than last season, but it didn’t stop them from turning a fit. One woman braved the heat in a sidewalk-sweeping black, crepe skirt and matching black shirt, while others layered up with long sleeves under short sleeves and blazers over t-shirts, which was admittedly quite brave. On the other end of the spectrum, others stripped off, hitting the shows in teeny white tanks, teenier white shorts and skimpy knit skirt sets. Proponents of the city’s all-black aesthetic were of course on hand – like Berghain bouncer Sven in a long pinstripe coat and Rick Owens X Champion – but this season there were actually a whole lot less of them, which may be a sign that the winds are changing in Berlin. And elsewhere, this season’s guests also got creative with their accessories, layering up the pearls, piling on the hats, and showing off their freshly manicured sets.
