Rather than the rainbow-smeared, unicorn-splattered collections of yesteryear, apparel offerings for June 2025 have become increasingly staid, with BOF citing “backlash by right-wing activists and the Trump administration” as reasons why brands are backing away from the pink pound. That was until Victor Barragán entered the chat. This week, the Mexican designer launched a brand new Pride collection, and it’s very loud and very homosexual. A collaboration with Beefcake – the Tokyo club night that puts big boys front and centre – the Beefcake x Barragán Pride Tokyo collection includes swimbriefs, a mankini, biker shorts, a singlet and logo tee. In very Barragán fashion, the pieces themselves are covered in an all-over print of queered country flags (think the Union Jack in the colours of the Jamaican flag, or the Stars and Stripes infiltrated by hammers and sickles), while the logo tee has size 12 footprints all over its back. The accompanying campaign, shot by Japanese photographer Keiki Banja, features model Go Kenta sprawled across the floor in various rooms in the new collection, and also other group shots from the Beefcake party itself. This Pride month, Barragán has bravely and proudly come out in favour of muscle-laden gay men, and they should be celebrated for that. The only downside? The collection is launching exclusively in Japan, so if you want to get your hands on a rare piece of Barragán (especially as he hasn’t held a catwalk since SS23) you’ll have to make the round trip to Tokyo to bag your mankini.
